It’s always exciting to see the impact of our work amplified in the awards arena. And this year, we’re celebrating three victories at the 29th Webby Awards for our work with Google.
Highlighting two language inclusion and accessibility initiatives
With over 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, Google’s Language Inclusion project uses AI to preserve languages across the globe, increasing the accessibility of technology to communities everywhere. Our interactive website, created to showcase the program and highlight the authentic stories captured in local communities, won both the Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award in Accessible Technology.
Our other Webby-winning site, Project Euphonia, is the Google Research initiative that collects samples of non-standard speech with a goal of making speech recognition technology more accessible. The website we created to drive awareness to Project Euphonia and invite more non-standard speech users to participate in the research won in Responsible AI.
About the Webbys
Since 1996, The Webby Awards have been the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet. The Accessible Technology category celebrates projects that advance social justice, eliminating barriers and inequities, while the Responsible AI category highlights work that demonstrates responsible and ethical AI practices. We’re proud to see our work driving awareness for language inclusion continue to make an impact.
